Iranian Americans along with some non Iranians have kept protesting on Saturdays across Washington, D.C. These weekly demonstrations are in solidarity of the people of Iran following almost three months of unrest. Protesters marched from Martin Luther King Memorial towards the White House on December 17, 2022. Anti government protests in Iran and abroad have started after Amini died in morality police custody in Iran after being detained for allegedly not wearing a headscarf (hijab) “properly” in public. Morality police is responsible for enforcing Iran’s strict dress code for women, including the wearing of the headscarf in public. Until now (December 17, 2022) the Islamic Republic of Iran have killed at least 500 and arrested at least 18000 Iranians.
